File Services and Shared Folders

Setup in Windows Server 2008

Written in January 17, 2026

File Services turns a Windows Server 2008 machine into a central file server for the entire domain. Instead of storing documents on individual workstations, users access shared folders on the server, where permissions and storage can be managed in one place. In this lab, you will create shared folders, configure NTFS and share permissions, and connect to those shares from a client machine.

You can watch my YouTube video that demonstrates this file services and shared folder lab using VirtualBox.
